Is Your CPA Firm Hiring? How to Use Video
CPA firm hiring is always a challenge.
One of our last slow season projects this past year was to develop our own internal hiring process. One extremely useful discovery was to add a step to request a short video from applicants. We request this after we’ve received a resume that looks promising. Video may not be appropriate or necessary for every position, but we have found it to be an excellent way to get a lot of information about a candidate in a very small amount of time.
This is really simple to do. Here is the request email we send:
Request for Video:
Subject: First Name – Short Video
Hi,
Thank you for your interest in the position and for completing your profile.
In order to help move along our discussion, can you send us a short video (90 seconds or so) of you sharing a few things that you think we should know about you. It does not have to be a big production and can be simply done with any smart phone if you’d like. It’s just a creative and resourceful way of letting us know a bit more about you and it is how we begin our hiring process.
Things to consider sharing:
1) What can we count on your providing?
2) What do you feel you’d be able to best contribute to our company in the short term and long term?
I will share your video with our team members, which will include our owner. If you can get your video completed and to me in the next couple of days, that would be great!
Thanks again and I look forward to seeing your video.
