Accounting Practice Insights Top 5 for 2016
Overall 2016 was a great year for Poe Group Advisors and we appreciate your continued support.
Our number of blog subscribers increased steadily throughout the year, as did our number of shares. Our company and team also grew nicely in 2016. We are also very excited that our Book, Accountant’s Flight Plan: Best Practices for Today’s Firms, was published in softcover and as an eBook by CPA Canada. (It can also be purchased as an eBook through the AICPA.)
Our Top 5 list below includes our top 3 posts that you loved and shared the most in 2016. To finish out the Top 5, I added my favorite business book and movie of 2016. Spoiler Alert-the image for this post is a dead giveaway to number 5.
10 QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN BUYING A CPA PRACTICE
This was actually written in 2015 and has been very popular ever since it was posted. It really helps buyers develop their “big picture” and is an excellent place to start. Most people have the idea to buy or sell a CPA firm long before they actually do it. Answering the biggest questions first is a huge help.
ACCOUNTING PRACTICE VALUE
This is a topic that has always generated a lot of interest. A lot of you wanted more information about this topic, so we created a whitepaper in 2016 that includes more details.
REASONS TO AVOID AN EARNOUT WHEN SELLING YOUR ACCOUNTING PRACTICE
This was an article that originally appeared in The Journal of Accountancy’s CPA Insider™. Our editor at the AICPA told us this was a very popular column for them as well.
BEST BUSINESS BOOK I READ IN 2016
Hands down it was How Adam Smith Can Change Your Life: An Unexpected Guide to Human Nature and Happiness by Russ Roberts. This book was easy to read and full of interesting insights that relate to business and to life. It was also a funny take on the Scottish Philosopher’s writings.
BEST MOVIE OF 2016
Of course it was The Accountant. I couldn’t not see this movie. It was surprisingly better than I’d imagined it would be. It really busted the accountant’s stereotype and was full of great action. If you are either an accountant, or an action movie-junkie, it’s a must see! If you are both, then you’ve already seen it.
